The base is located in the counties of Crawford, Kalkaska, and Otsego. It has large artillery and mortar ranges, tank and maneuver courses, and more. Visitors are invited to use the Morale, Welfare and Recreation facilities on post, including boating and fishing on Lake Margrethe.

Housing is available on base or in nearby towns like Gaylord, Traverse city and Higgins Lake. The homes in this region are affordable in comparison to other parts of the nation.

Otsego County Fairgrounds

Otsego County Historical Society

The Museum of the Founders’ Feast is a takeout fundraiser that takes place on Oct. 21. Board members of the Society deliver dinners in vehicles, while giving away giveaways. This is a drive-through event. It’s an annual event.

The Otsego County Historical Society was established in 1963. The Otsego County Historical Society collects and preserves all materials that help establish or illustrate Otsego County’s history. It is a non-profit corporation.

It is a member of the Greater Oneonta Community Foundation and the Otsego County Federation of Women’s Clubs. The Otsego County Historical Society also sponsors the Founders’ Feast. Every fall, this dinner is held to raise money. The funds raised help preserve and maintain the historic buildings of the society. The museum features a wide array of exhibits and programs.

San Francisco CA: The Next Big Thing

San Francisco CA is always changing. It’s always a city that pioneers the Next Big Thing, and it attracts people to want to be a part of it.

This is a beautiful, diverse city with many different cultures. It’s important to accept that there are many homeless people in the city. They are not a problem.

Golden Gate Bridge

The 1.7 mile-long bridge is a sight to behold with towers that rise 746 feet into the air, and its signature orange vermilion color is a symbol of American ingenuity. It’s a true engineering marvel that took years of planning and construction.

The bridge was opened to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937, ahead of schedule and under budget. The main span was the world’s longest suspension bridge until it was surpassed by the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in 1964.

The bridge is a great place to walk, bike or take a look from different angles. It’s best to do this during sunset so you can see the water reflect the bridge’s subtle lighting. For an even more special experience, the bridge is also lit up at night.

Golden Gate Park

Often compared to New York City’s Central Park, the 1,017-acre Golden Gate Park offers both residents and visitors tons of beautiful escapes. You can find everything here, from top-notch museums and botanical gardens to lakes for boating.

The Japanese Tea Garden and de Young Museum are some of the most popular attractions. For a fuller exploration of the park, sign up for a two-hour narrated bike tour that will take you past top attractions as well as lesser-known gems such as the Redwood Tree Grove and Storybook Cross. You can also walk, run or jog around the park. Be aware that the park can get quite crowded on weekends and nice weather days.

The Exploratorium

The Exploratorium, which is located in San Francisco’s Embarcadero, offers a unique experience that combines science with art. It’s been around since 1969 but recently had a huge makeover with a new location on the Embarcadero. You can now touch, tinker and explore over 600 exhibits.

The Tactile Dome is one of the most popular displays. It’s pitch black and you find your way around it by feeling and bumping your way through.

The Fog Bridge, by Fujiko Nakai, connects Pier 15 and 17 and releases a fog-like mist for six minutes each half hour. For dining options, there’s the low key Seaglass Restaurant serving family friendly meals and drinks sourced from small Bay Area producers.

California Academy of Sciences

California Academy of Sciences, located in Golden Gate Park, is a world class aquarium and planetarium as well as a natural history museum. The California Academy of Sciences allows visitors to explore the depths of the ocean, travel across time and continents, or launch into outer space while supporting world class scientific research.

Visitors can watch African penguins be fed, marvel at the realistic dioramas of dinosaurs or test their balance on an earthquake simulator. The Academy also has educational and community outreach programs to help the public understand the importance of preserving our planet.

To get the most out of your visit, buy tickets online in advance for a specific date and time. This will save you $3-5 for each adult, and the kids are free. Also look for discount cards like the Go San Francisco Card and CityPASS.

The Castro

The Castro is San Francisco’s LGBTQ neighborhood and the most famous in the world. Historically, many members of the LGBT community have moved here, especially dishonorably discharged soldiers after WWII, to take advantage of its liberal politics and tolerant culture.

There are many bars, cafes, and shops that cater to this neighborhood, such as Mix, which offers cocktails, dancing, and karaoke. Hi Tops is the neighborhood’s first gay sports bar and its deafening cheer with every Giants victory is a highlight of any visit here.

San Bernardino has a Council Manager City where an elected Mayor and City Council set policy, while a professional City Manager manages the day-today operations of the City.

Visitors to San Bernardino CA can explore ancient Egyptian relics at the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art, or play in Seccombe Lake Park. The city is surrounded by mountains and the San Bernardino National Forest, where hiking trails abound.

History

San Bernardino is named after a unique arrowhead formation that appears on the mountainside. Native American legend claims that a spirit of heaven burnt the arrowhead in order to guide tribes towards a Climate with curative waters far away in California.

Mormon pioneers settled the area in 1851 and helped transform it into a major regional hub. When Church President Brigham Young called them back to Salt Lake City the industrious communities faded.

In the decades that followed, the California Southern Railroad was built through San Bernadino. This led to a population boom. Then Norton Air Force Base opened during World War II, eventually becoming San Bernardino International Airport. But in the late 1980s, when the economy soured and Kaiser Steel closed, civic pride took a hit.

San Bernardino has a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Csa) with warm winters and hot summers. San Bernardino is one of California’s sunniest cities.

San Bernardino’s best seasons are spring and autumn. During these seasons, temperatures are moderate and the humidity is relatively low. You should check the forecast before you make any plans. This way, you can prepare yourself accordingly.

Parks

San Bernardino has several parks where you can spend some time in the great outdoors. Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most popular parks in San Bernardino. You can go hiking, camping, bouldering, rock climbing and even stargaze due to the lack of light pollution.

Other popular outdoor attractions include Silverwood Lake, which offers fishing and water sports. Children can also enjoy a zero depth water play area as well as dual-flume slides.

The original McDonald’s Museum, a quirky attraction with no official affiliation to the McDonald’s chain, displays toys and signs from decades ago. You can also visit the San Bernardino County Museum, which has a vast collection of artefacts.

San Bernardino is home to a wide variety of restaurants that serve Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisines, as well as American. There are also restaurants that cater to vegans and vegetarians. You can enjoy delicious plant-based food at Happy Family Vegetarian and Cafe Organix, for example.

Saginaw, MI Things to do

Saginaw MI is a true melting pot with dozens of fun things to do. You can, for example, visit the Castle Museum. This stunning historical structure houses a sports, archeology, and lumber era hall of fame, as well as an automotive museum.

You can also visit the Saginaw Art Museum. It has a collection of sculptures and watercolor artwork by European and American artists. The museum is located in a Georgian Revival mansion with Italianate gardens.

The Great Mural Project

Located in downtown Saginaw, the Great Mural Project is a collection of local artists that paint murals around town. These pieces honor a variety of historical figures and cultural events as well as local history.

The project was started in 2017 to bring even more public art to the city. Along with Alayna Wesener, a Communications Specialist at McLaren Bay Region and owner of Sushi Remix, Cassi Miller, a business Development Specialist at Saginaw Future Inc, and Dawn Goodrow, the owner of Dawn of a New Day coffee house, they’ve painted several murals.

The largest mural, which stands at the Commerce Center in downtown Saginaw, honors civil rights activist Jim Letherer. The mural features an image of him with one leg walking on crutches. It’s a symbol of his larger than life legacy. A mural will be painted on an entire STARS Bus to honor Theodore Roethke. The group is proud of their efforts in creating such large-scale paintings.

The Great Lakes Bay Trail

Tucked along Saginaw Bay, this unique area offers a variety of ways to explore its natural beauty. Wander secluded woodland trails to spot warblers in spring, take a hike up the 1400 foot Whiting Forest canopy walk (the largest of its kind in the United States) during fall or snowshoe across fresh powdery peaks during winter.

The region also has a number of parks that feature walking trails. Wenonah Park features scenic views of bridges and lush foliage in the summer, while Bay City State Park’s beach, Tobico Marsh, and Anderson Nature Trail provide a range of options.

During our recent visit we took advantage of the 3.3 mile Bay City Tobico Marsh Trail which offers a variety of scenic wetlands and 2 observation towers to climb up. We also had the opportunity to explore the 2.5 mile Bay City Anderson Nature Trail as well as the 1.35 mile Tobico Lagoon Trail. All of these trails are part of the Greater Lakes Bay Regional Trail System, which will, once fully constructed, connect Midland and Bay counties to their existing paths.

Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra

The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) was first created in 1935 as a project of the City’s Parks Department and has held annual concert series ever since. It was founded in 1953 as a nonprofit corporation, and one of 50 charter members of American Symphony Orchestra League. Today, it is a fully-professional ensemble which gives classical, chamber, ballet, historical and modern dance, opera and pops concerts throughout the year.

In this performance, world famous pianist Alessio Bax, winner of the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and featured in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, joins your SBSO, conducted by Maestro Fouad Fakhouri, in a tribute to the masterpieces of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Journey through the cosmos from the historic Temple Theatre as Maestro Fouad Fakhouri leads your Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra in a space-themed concert that includes John Williams’ Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Nielsen’s Helios Overture, Rouse’s Phaethon and Holst’s beloved The Planets, complete with synchronized overhead projection including footage from NASA.

Ojibway Island

Ojibway Island is Saginaw’s own island park, located in the heart of downtown. It offers relaxing picnics, riverside walks, and leisure bike rides. This is also where many locals go to watch the annual 4th of July fireworks and for ice fishing during winter.

The island is a scenic and calming oasis in the middle of busy downtown Saginaw. The island is conveniently located near popular local attractions like the Japanese Tea Gardens and Anderson Enrichment Center. There are also unique, locally-owned restaurants that serve a wide variety of cuisines in Old Town and downtown Saginaw.
